What a find!

Such a lovely evening at a most welcoming pub - a must if you're near Wallingford. From the owner's predinner drinks order taken at the outside table (never experienced that before) to the unintrusive service over a wonderful dinner - you won't be disappointed. This cosy restaurant pub served up a delight with fresh salads (I had chicken confit and pistachio salad) to start to a spectacular duck and fish for mains (but many choices for all palates. Check this out online. Many thanks for a memorable evening.

A Wonderful Evening Meal in the Garden

Reviewed 5 days ago via mobile A Wonderful Evening Meal in the Garden

Hubby and I visited Home Sweet Home for the first time yesterday evening and we had a lovely, welcoming experience. It's the little things that count... For example we decided to eat outside but were still fully waited on at our table, which was very refreshing.

As for the food... Well hubby fancied the ribeye steak but not the accompanying dauphinoise potatoes (he has an aversion to garlic). He was offered a couple of different alternatives and opted for a sweet potato croquette, which he loved. Again, it was refreshing to be so well accommodated and not made to feel fussy. Hubby said his steak was excellent quality and cooked to perfection, and he loved his panacotta dessert. I didn't have dessert but I was very impressed by my pesto cod main course; it was cooked exactly to my liking. Home Sweet Home has a seriously good chef, and we felt the food was good value for the superb quality.

I would highly recommend Home Sweet Home for a warm welcome and excellent food. We'll definitely be returning!

We had a wonderful 3 course meal from their new and highly experienced Chefs which really blew us away.

The most delicious and delicately balanced salmon, duck and lamb dishes - a real treat. The desserts were also spectacular - the sticky toffee pudding and a deconstructed chocolate cheesecake which were delicious!

We loved the attention to detail from food to drink to service and a real feeling of passion running through everything at the Home Sweet Home.

We also went to their music and beer festival Rokefest which was fantastic! Delicious BBQ and drinks and music in aid of Cancer Research UK. A wonderful event for HSH to be proud of.

We hadn't booked but the very helpful staff managed to find us a table even though it was very busy. Beautiful bar with a lovely feel, we went straight to the table though as we were squeezed in having not booked. The menu was really excellent and far above what you would perhaps expect from a small country pub, I have great joy in saying the menu was not all show - they food was brilliant, we loved everything and left the plates clean!

As per other reviews I can only agree on the wonderful staff.

We will certainly be back and cannot recommend it enough

Such fantastic service and delicious roasts.

I had the veggie option and it was great- cauliflower cheese, roasties, Yorkshire pudding, loads of veg - just yummy.

Apparently the beef and lamb were also brilliant.

Beautiful setting too - perfect little garden with traditional wooden tables with umbrellas - great for summer dining.

I was blown away by the service in particular - attentive but not annoying

Emailed the restaurant, asking if they could accommodate my 97 year old mothers dietary needs. They said they could cook anything to her requirements and they were totally accurate. She eats very little and is very specific and they gave her exactly what she wanted. They also made us very welcome when we arrived. All our meals were excellent, the best lamb shank I have eaten for a long while. The service was very good and the lovely old setting was wonderful. Thank you for your kind welcome and look forward to seeing you again.

I booked this venue as it was an annual get together for the our family of 6 meal each of travelling approx 100 miles to get there and being close to a motorway also based on the Reviews
After driving 7 miles of country lanes we found the venue vey easily
After 10 mins 4 unexpected of our family arrived including twins (2 year olds) the owners soon found space for them, with my brother arrived with his other son making the party 11. The owners found space for all of us we were quickly served and our orders taken.
Super food super service and a reasonable price. A very good meal enjoyed by all . One to go back to

Delicious, beautifully presented food in lovely surroundings. The service was prompt but relaxed and staff were friendly and attentive. We took our friends who were visiting and we were all very impressed. Thankyou so much x

Went for lunch with family visiting from overseas. The staff were extremely helpful, especially as we had a small baby in a pram. The pub is great for visitors as it includes all the best features of a traditional English country pub.
All of the food was excellent and the lunch menu is reasonably priced with a good selection. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

We visited on a disappointingly chilly August day and were quite happy to see the log fire roaring. We received a warm and friendly welcome and were shown to our table in the bar area. Our waitress was lovely and was always available but not intrusive. There is a good choice of food on the menu and everything is clearly homemade and of excellent quality. Between us we had a burger, a chicken and bacon Caesar salad and a salt beef open sandwich - all delicious. This was followed by a rhubarb rice pudding and an orange posset - again delicious and well presented. For a warmer day, there are tables outside and there is also a nice restaurant area. We visit when we come to see our friend but wish we lived nearer as the value and quality is superb.
